María Riccetto was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, and began studying ballet at age six. Two years later she joined the National School of Dance in Uruguay. In 1996 she entered the corps de ballet of the Ballet Nacional Sodre (BNS). In 1998 she traveled to North Carolina where she received a scholarship at the North Carolina School of the Arts.
In 1999 Riccetto was invited to join one of the most prestigious companies in the world, the American Ballet Theater. She was a Soloist in this company until 2012.
Over her dancing career she has paired with many Principal Dancers such as Julio Bocca, Jose Carreño, Vladimir Malakhov, Ángel Corella and Ethan Stiefel, and has worked with many renowned choreographers, such as Twyla Tharp, JormaElo, and Benjamin Millipied.
Riccetto has taken part in every production of the company’s classical repertoire including Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, Giselle, La Bayadére, Le Corsaire, Onegin, Merry Widow, La fille mal gardée, La Sylphide and Raymonda among others, as well as Balanchine’s Ballo de la Regina, Ballet Imperial, Theme & Variations, and Symphony in C.
She was chosen as Mila Kunis’ action and bodydouble for the dance scenes featured in the 2010 motion picture, Black Swan. In 2012 she was a guest dancer in the Ballet Nacional Sodre’sproductions of The Merry Widow and The Nutcracker.
In 2013 she returned to Uruguay to join BNS as a Principal Dancer, taking part in productions such as La Sylphide, Sinfonietta, Russian Hamlet, Le Corsaire, The Messiah, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, La Bayadére and Coppelia. She has also starred in national tours across Uruguay, as well as international tours in Paraguay, Venezuela, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Spain, Italy, Oman, China, Cuba, Israel and Thailand.
