Maria Kochetkova

Born inMoscow, Maria Kochetkova trained atthe Bolshoi Ballet School for eight years before dancing with The Royal Ballet and English National Ballet inLondon. She joined the San Francisco Ballet asaPrincipal Dancer in2007and has performed asaguest artist with the Bolshoi and Stanislavsky Theaters inMoscow, the Mariinsky and Mikhailovsky Theaters inSt.Petersburg and the Tokyo Ballet inJapan. Her classical repertoire includes the title role inGiselle, Aurora inThe Sleeping Beauty, Kitri inDon Quixote, Juliet inRomeo & Juliet, Odette-Odile inSwan Lake, Clara and the Sugar Plum Fairy inThe Nutcracker, Tatiana inJohn Cranko's Onegin and the title role inAlice inWonderland. She has also performed inGeorge Balanchine's Coppelia (as Swanilda), Divertimento No.15, Jewels (Emeralds and Rubies) , Serenade and Theme and Variations, Symphony inC(2nd movement), Scotch Symphony, William Forsythe's in the middle, somewhat elevated and Artifact Suite, Kenneth MacMillan's Winter Dreams, Frederick Ashton's Symphonic Variations and Voices ofSpring, Wayne McGregor's Chroma (opening night for USpremiere) and ballets byDavid Dawson, Derek Deane, Jorma Elo, Mark Morris, Yuri Possokhov, Alexei Ratmansky, Jerome Robbins, Helgi Tomasson, Christopher Wheeldon and Hans Van Manen.

Kochetkova has created principal roles inYuri Possokhov's Diving into the Lilacs, Raymonda Pas deDeux and Classical Symphony, Helgi Tomasson's On aTheme ofPaganini and Trio, Christopher Wheeldon's Cinderella, Within the Golden Hour and Number 9, Alexei Ratmansky's From Foreign Lands, Jorma Elo's One Overture, Mauro Bigonzetti's Cinque and Wayne McGregor's Borderlands.

Her guest performances include Kitri inDon Quixote for the 2009 NBS World Ballet Festival inTokyo and Cinque and One Overture with the Bolshoi's Reflections project (2011). She has also performed atthe Stars ofthe 21st Century Ballet Galas inToronto, Moscow & Panama, the Roberto Bolle and Friends Gala atthe Arena diVerona, the Nijinsky Gala inHamburg, the Boris Eifman and Ballet Stars Gala atMikhailovsky Castle inStPetersburg, Les Etoiles pour leJapon Gala atthe Palais des congrèsinParis, the International Ballet Star Gala inTaipei, the YAGP Pestov Galas inMoscow and New York and YAGP Ballet's Greatest Hits Gala inTampa Florida. Kochetkova performed the Grand Pas deDeux inSan Francisco Ballet's Nutcracker which was broadcast byPBS in2008and won the solo gold medal inthe NBC series Superstars ofDance which was watched byover 10 million viewers. Kochetkova's prizes and awards include the Isadora Duncan Award for the role ofGiselle and medals atthe International Ballet Competitions inSeoul (Gold, 2005), Rome (Gold, 2005), Riety (Gold, 2005), Luxembourg (Gold, 2003), Varna (Silver and the Press Jury Prize, 2002), Moscow (Bronze, 2001). She isalso awinner ofthe Prix deLausanne (2002).
